Lin Pei-yin is Associate Professor at the School of Chinese, University of Hong Kong. She obtained her PhD from SOAS (University of London), and was a visiting scholar at Harvard Yenching Institute (2015-16) and Chair of Taiwan Studies at Leiden University (Fall, 2020). Prior to joining HKU, Pei-yin has taught at the University of London, National University of Singapore, and University of Cambridge. Her research interest is modern Chinese literature and culture, with a focus on Taiwan. She is the author of Colonial Taiwan: Negotiating Identities and Modernity through Literature (Brill, 2017), in which she examines how colonial Taiwanese literature, treated as part of world literature, was shaped by a myriad of political and aesthetic forces. Her recent edited volumes include Positioning Taiwan in a Global Context: Being and Becoming (Routledge, 2019) and East Asian Transwar Popular Culture: Literature and Film from Taiwan and Korea (Palgrave, 2019). Her Chinese monograph entitled《台灣文學中的性別與族裔：從日治到當代》is forthcoming from the National Taiwan University Press. She is currently working on a monograph on the place-based imagination of contemporary Taiwanese literature as well as two research projects on Taiwan’s oceanic narratives and early post-war HK-Taiwan cultural/literary connections.
